FAQs

  • What type of clients do you work with?

I work with children, teens, young adults, couples, and families. My specialties include eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, and supporting helpers (such as therapists and healthcare providers). Even if you don’t fall into one of those categories, reach out and we can discuss if I would be a good fit or I can help you with other referrals.

  • What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is about getting to know you (or your child) and your goals. I’ll ask about your history, what’s bringing you to therapy, and what you’d like to see change. It’s also a chance for you to ask me questions and see if I feel like the right fit.

  • Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?

Yes. I offer both in-person sessions at my office in Austin, TX (Northwest Hills), and secure telehealth sessions for clients across Texas and California.

  • What is the difference between a therapist and a psychologist?

I get asked this question a lot, even from people in the mental health field. Both therapists and psychologists provide therapy and support for emotional, relational, and psychological concerns. The main difference is training. Psychologists complete a doctoral degree (PhD for me) which includes advanced training in assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment, as well as a full-time clinical internship and postdoctoral supervision. Therapists and psychologists follow different training pathways, both of which can lead to effective, meaningful care. As a psychologist, my training allows me to offer a depth of clinical conceptualization that can be especially helpful for complex presentations, families, and developmental transitions. Regardless of title, the most important part of therapy is a strong, trusting relationship - feeling understood, supported, and helped to make meaningful change.

  • Do you take insurance?

Yes — I am currently in network with Optum and Curative and am actively working through the credentialing process with additional insurance companies. I’ll continue to share updates as I become paneled with more plans, as increasing access to care is very important to me.

For all other insurance plans, I am currently considered out of network. Many clients still choose to use their out-of-network benefits, and I’m happy to help make that process easier. I can provide a superbill (a detailed receipt) that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, depending on your specific plan.

  • What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?

That’s completely okay. Many people feel uncertain about starting therapy. I offer a free brief consultation call so you can ask questions, get a feel for my style, and decide if this is a good fit for you.
